(1) You’re not switching it up

If you’ve been doing the same workout for a few months, you may not be seeing any new results. That is because your body gets used to the exercises you’ve been doing. You can add variety to your workout by adding new exercises, increasing the weight, or increasing your speed in a cardio workout.

(2) You’re not eating well

Whether you’re eating too much, not enough or not the right foods, a poor diet can completely sabotage your workout. Eating the proper foods is essential to seeing the results you want in the gym. Whether you are trying to bulk up or trying to lose those extra pounds, having the right fuel for your body is almost as important as your workout itself. Your body needs lean protein, healthy fats, vitamins, fiber and a little bit of starchy carbs to help you function well while you’re training.

(3) You’re working out too much

Exercising too much can put even more stress on your body. Your muscles need time to rest and recover. If you are not at least rotating the muscles you workout on a weekly basis, you are putting yourself at more risk for injury and fatigue. Extreme cases of over training often labeled as Overtraining Syndrome, found most-often in athletes, can take a severe toll on the body.

(4) You’re not pushing yourself

The best way to see results in the gym is to incorporate high-intensity workouts in your overall regimen. That means pushing yourself past a certain threshold. Whether it’s increasing the reps in your weightlifting program or increasing the speed in your cardio workout, adding intervals and pushing your limits will help you see results further down the line.

(5) You’re not getting consistent workouts in

Sporadically working out will not give you the results you want. It is essential to commit to certain number of sessions a week. Typically, around four-to-five will help make a significant change. Try setting away time everyday or scheduling a class. Missing the occasional workout is fine but keeping it consistent will help you reach the goals you want.

Overall, don’t be too hard on yourself and try to be in-tune with your body’s needs.
