I finally made it! I finally got to the beach this summer. I meet up with my long lost friend, and she drags me along with her brood to the beach. It’s great catching up and reminiscing, but did I mention her brood includes three kids under ten? Oh the day is beautiful, the water is like a bath, and the beach is speckled with people. (But, OMG would you look at that, do you think she tried that suit on before she bought it?)
Everyone dives in, cools off, and I hear three words… black forest ham…I’m excited, my first picnic in years. I make way back to shore and see smoked turkey, individual American cheese slices, grapes, mustard, mayo, Wonder Bread… wait, what? Wonder Bread… seriously? Oh I’m going to have to teach these people how to eat!
Where is the soprasota, the gorgonzola, the marinated figs? My mouth waters for some dolmas, Rosemarino Ham. A nice baguette, with fennel salami, oh they must try the Morel and Leek cheese. (Wow her suit goes all the way down to her knees, what the heck?) Bring on the cornichons, the Kalamata olives–I love that brine! Rope chorizo sliced thin, where is the hummus? Oh BellaVitano made with balsamic vinegar or some Manchego cheese. A fruity sparkly Sangria or Moscato to sip on while popping fresh sweet cherries. (Sigh.) That’s it, next time I’m packing the picnic! (Holy cow… that is a two-piece…. what was she thinking?)
